About Star Davies
Star Davies, born in Jacksonville, Florida, a blond hair, blue eyed Native American, has lived in Wisconsin since 1980. She grew up in Milton, but in 2001 relocated to Beloit. Encouraged by her parents throughout her upbringing that she could do anything she put her mind to, her writing began at the age of eight. It was not until her godsons were born in 2003 that she began to create the fantasy world Divica. Where do you get your ideas?
Everywhere. I've done several things to get myself started. Role Played with friends, brainstormed for hours, dug deep into the psyche of each character. But the settings and the majesty of Divica are inspired by the world around me. I can see a little bit of the fantasy world everywhere I look. The castle in the clouds was a real shadow behind my parents house. The White Mountains were inspired by a massive bank of mountainous clouds. It's in the world all around us.What's your daily routine?
Routine? That sould suggest that I do the same thing day in and day out. Being supportive of my husband who is preparing for medical school and getting ready to have our first baby, my routine changes day to day. But when I prepare to write, I do follow the same pattern. I put on my headphones, turn on Pandora radio, and lounge back with the keyboard in my lap. If I'm not comfortable I can't write.
Why fantasy?
I wanted to create something for the children in my family when my husband and I had no money. He actually suggested writing fantasy to me. Once I got started it became and addiction. Reading fantasy, writing fantasy. I can't even seem to think of much else by means of writing.
When is the next book coming out?
Well, Hunt for the Blood is finished in the second draft, but it still isn't ready for publishing. I'm also currently working on the second book, Rapscallion's Hammer and am about halfway through the first draft.
Who are your favorite authors/greatest influences?
There are so many I have read and loved, but only a few who have inspired me.
1. Robert Jordan. I have read a lot of different authors both in and out of the fantasy genre, but none have written something as epic as Robert Jordan. I still await the end of his epic Wheel of Time series and have read the series several times over. Complex characters, intense plot. Calling him an inspiration is an understatement.
2. Brandon Sanderson. He's still fairly new to the publishing world, but his Mistborn Trilogy left me gaping in awe by the end. His characters were well developed and his world intriguing. I couldn't suggest him strongly enough.
